I finally started to feel normal in the pool this week. I had a big training week to get through in terms of mileage for each session. It was quite a shift from what I have been used to, but I respond really well to following a program and was able to tick off each session by breaking it down into sets and just getting my mind prepared to tick off the boxes.

This week was my first proper training week for the Kawi channel. I did try last week, but that did not go so well, so I started again this week. I got off to a less than ideal start getting to the pool quite late on Monday which meant I could only fit in 1500m of my 4.5km session. I went to work, saw a few patients before doing my strength session and then back to work before ending my day finishing my morning swim session with another 3km. Day 1, tick. This week was tough as my first week back at training. I started off on the back foot waking up with a sore throat on Monday morning. I decided to ignore it and train anyway. Within 1500m of my swim my elbow started hurting, I felt terrible in the water but I was adamant I was going to finish the session. I had to dig deep. I finished my session and headed to start my working week.

This week was my final week of rest and recovery before starting my rigorous training program for Hawaii. It was a tough week, which is actually a blessing in disguise because it means I won’t get such a shock when I start proper training next week!
Although I have named February rest and recovery month, I have still done a bit of training just for maintenance and to make sure my body doesn’t fall apart from doing nothing. I have done over 100 treatments on patients this month which in itself is not ‘restful’ so I am not going into March completely...

I’ve been invited to give a motivational talk to a bunch of 10 -13 year olds this week before a big swimming gala they have. I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out what to talk about and how to fit it into a 30 minute time slot. February is my rest month before I start a very specific and rigorous training program for my Hawaii challenge.

This week was another good training week. I have done a little more mileage than last week but am still building very slowly to where I need to be.  I couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2016 training wise.  My first sea swim was a week into the year after a week of multiple double training sessions. The weather has been so hot that it has been tough to stay motivated when the pool water is close to 30 degrees and outside even hotter. The sea was not friendly to swimmers until Friday morning with an easterly (which brings blue bottles) blowing most of the week and many holiday makers filling up the beach front.
